And time! The awards are this Sunday and I’ve seen everything except for one foreign film that isn’t even out yet. We’ve also reviewed almost everything. What isn’t up before Sunday, I’ll review soon after. Taking a vacation in the middle of this adventure stole away precious obsession fulfilling time. Oh, well. Here are my predictions for what it’s worth (which I’m starting to think seeing everything makes me worse at this part).
BEST PICTURE:
Will Win: The Artist
Should win: Tough one, but I’d be happy with either Hugo or Moneyball
BEST DIRECTOR:
Will Win: Michel Hazanavicius, The Artist
Should Win: Terrence Malick, The Tree of Life – Not my favorite film, but a true directing achievement.
BEST ACTOR:
Will Win: Jean Dujardin, The Artist
Should Win: Brad Pitt, Moneyball – Makes it look so easy. I don’t think people appreciate it enough
BEST ACTRESS:
Will Win: Viola Davis, The Help
Should Win: None – but if I had to pick, Michelle Williams gave my favorite performance of this bunch
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR:
Will and Should Win: Christopher Plummer, Beginners
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS:
Will Win: Octavia Spencer, The Help
Should Win: Jessica Chastain, The Help – She stole the whole movie.
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
Will Win: Rango
Should Win: None of these are great (not a big fan of Rango), but I liked A Cat in Paris best
BEST FOREIGN FILM
Will and Should Win: A Separation (Iran) – Didn’t see Footnote, but this film is pretty, pretty good.
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Will Win: The Artist
Should Win: Midnight in Paris – Takes great skill/talent to make a film so effervescent.

Will Win: The Descendants
Should Win: Moneyball – So thematically rich and layered, plus great dialogue

BEST MAKEUP
Will and Should Win: The Iron Lady
BEST SOUND EDITING
Will and Should Win: War Horse, but it’s a strong category.

Will and Should Win: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
BEST ANIMATED SHORT
Will and Should Win: La Luna
BEST LIVE ACTION SHORT
Will and Should Win: Tuba Atlantic

So, that’s way too many “will and should” for me to be right.
Go ahead and share your picks in the comments and if you beat me, I’ll pout.

17 Rosko not bad…12 Jew, not so good, warned you abut Chico…8 Adam, ouch…Jose 9 but out of 18, still not great…Eric 12 but the impressive Editing call.
I’m proud of my Documentary call…I assume anyone else that got it, ROSKO, was following my lead.
If you followed my short predix…I’m sorry but the two I got wrong are not good movies.
Man, will next year have a movie that pisses Bryan off MORE than The Artist did this year?
