Ambiguous Christmas – Part 6: Baby, It’s Cold Outside

As the year comes to an end, I find that I still have a long list of movies that I’ve yet to include on my Christmas list. There’s just been so much going on, that I think I’ll save the rest of my list for next Christmas. Still, the year ain’t over yet. So, I’ll leave you with some heartwarming holiday films that can work for both Christmas and New Year’s, in hopes that they’ll send you into 2011 with a smile on your face. Continue reading

Ambiguous Christmas – Part 5: Not a Creature Was Stirring

Naughty… nice… these are the Christmas movies that are fun.

“You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen / Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen / but do you recall / the most famous reindeer of all?”

Ambiguous Christmas – Part 4: Better Watch Out

Naughty… nice… these are the Christmas movies that are fun.

What’s Christmas without Santa Claus? I think this is probably my only date-specific part of this list. For this collection of Santa-centric films, I’d recommend a Christmas Eve movie marathon. But, just in case you aren’t similarly inclined to equate noir with Noel, I’ve got two movies that show that crime and Christmas go together like Santa and reindeer, like tinsel and holly, like zombies and Easter. Ambiguous Christmas – Part 2: Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Naughty… nice… these are the Christmas movies that are fun.

Part two of my ambiguous Christmas movie extravaganza finds us on the more traditional end of the spectrum, with two modern holiday classics. Continue reading

Ambiguous Christmas – Part 1: Tidings of Great Joy

Christmas time is here,
happiness and cheer,
fun for all,
that children call,
their favorite time of year…

I am a fan of Christmas, and not because of the gifts. I love the food, the music, the Christmas specials, the people watching (specifically, the feeble attempts at good cheer to mask the bitter resentment of kith and kin), but most of all I love the movies. Continue reading
