I’d Buy That for a Dollar: The Human Centipede (First Sequence)

I first learned about The Human Centipede (First Sequence) last year while reading /Film’s coverage of Fright Fest 2009. I was immediately intrigued, and simultaneously disgusted. The phrase “human centipede” is probably, in and of itself, enough to truly sicken the squeamish. Further reading of the plot, which involves victims being grafted together ass-to-mouth, is enough to disturb even those of us with stronger constitutions. (I’m guessing this is the point where I’ve lost some of that squeamish bunch.) Continue reading

Review: Splice

In a world where it seems that David Cronenberg has left the realm of horror films behind in favor of crime films, it’s nice to see that someone is attempting to take up the mantle left in his wake. The fact that someone is Vincenzo Natali, director of 1997’s brilliantly understated Cube, makes Splice all the more promising. Throw in the talented Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley, and you’re pretty much ensured an entertaining experience. Continue reading
