Best Birthday Party Ever – “Skyfall” Review

You’re late, 007, but maybe that’s a good thing. After 2008′s Quantum of Solace, a scatter-brained and unworthy follow-up to Daniel Craig‘s first outing as James Bond in Casino Royale, Bond producers knew they’d done wrong, as filmmakers and as torch-bearers of the longest running franchise in movie history, which has now hit its golden 50th anniversary. Four years later, they’re backto prove themselves and Britain’s top spy once again, with Skyfall. Continue reading

The Trouble with Quibbles: The Adventures of Tintin

Two new Steven Spielberg films were recently released. War Horse was one, and Rosko has decided to join me in discussing the other, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. Based on one of the most popular comics in the world, Tintin marks Spielberg’s first animated film as well as his first 3D film. Tintin is well-known in all parts of the world but is very much like soccer or the metric system to us Americans. That being said, Rosko and I are lifelong Spielberg fans and I couldn’t think of a better film for us to discuss. Continue reading

Men Who Hate Women Who Text During Movies – “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” and Other Thoughts

[Editor's note: This is more rant than review, but I was amused and hope you will be too.]

It is almost 2 A.M. I have a full-time job to wake-up to in the morning. My 9-month-old baby has been sick. Last night I did not sleep well. Tonight I will not sleep well. Theoretically, I can sleep until 7:30 AM and have time to get ready and out the door, but none of my 3 children will let me sleep that long. Knowing this, I still cannot sleep, for my blood is still boiling, my adrenaline is still up, and I must share my experience at the movies. Continue reading

Opening Weekend: Chance

Anna Faris takes a chance on her exes. Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz take a chance on their dream house. Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine take their chances against evil. There’s a chance Michael Shannon is losing his mind. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a 50/50 chance to beat cancer. And there isn’t much chance of me ever seeing Bunraku, Margaret, or Courageous. Continue reading

Fall Preview: 10 That Got Away

I know Bryan is curious about what movies I’m looking forward to, specifically which of his 25 picks I agree with. Maybe you are too. So, I figured I’d make a little list of my own. Here’s a shocker: we disagree about something. One of my major points of contention with his list: Fall doesn’t include December. Continue reading

Opening Weekend: Crazy Smurfin’ Cowboys

The Smurfs reach the big screen. Daniel Craig plays a taciturn gunslinger who takes on alien invaders in the old west. And Steve Carell becomes Ryan Gosling’s wingman. Continue reading

I’d Buy That for a Dollar: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I debated watching this movie for two reasons. One, David Fincher (one of my favorite directors) is working on a remake with Daniel Craig, and this being a mystery/thriller, I didn’t necessarily want all the juicy stuff spoiled for me. Two, it’s a trilogy, therefore after viewing the first one I’m contractually obligated to watch two more movies. Alas, I caved because I’m tired of hearing about the Swedish phenomenon and finally wanted to know what the fuss was about. After securing a copy from redbox, it turns out, I still don’t know what the fuss is about. Continue reading
